FONÉTICA SIN LETRAS is an educational app developed by PRESCHOOL UNIVERSITY. Designed for iPhone, this free app falls under the Education & Reference category. It aims to provide children with phonemic awareness skills in Spanish, which research has shown to be a powerful predictor of success in learning how to read (Stanovich, 1986; 1993; Share & Stanovich, 1995).

FONÉTICA SIN LETRAS helps prepare children to read by teaching them the main sounds of the alphabet. It lays a solid foundation for learning the alphabetic principle and helps children identify the initial sounds of words. By using this app, children can develop an understanding that words are composed of sound units (phonemes). Research has demonstrated that children with high phonemic awareness outperform those with low phonemic awareness in literacy measures (Griffith, Klesius, & Kromrey, 1992).

The goal of FONÉTICA SIN LETRAS is to develop fundamental reading skills in children. By practicing and mastering the games in the app, children can develop neural pathways in their brain associated with sound recognition. This app focuses solely on the sounds of letters and does not use any actual letters or letter names. Its title was intentionally chosen to indicate that letters are not used in the app, but rather it focuses on pre-letter phonemic awareness skills.
